PRESS RELEASE
The Modern Gentleman
Cooking & Entertaining With Sean Kanan
By Sean Kanan
Published By Dunham Book
For Immediate Release
(LOS ANGELES, CA) “Don’t just set the table — set the mood.” This is the advice that actor Sean Kanan,
has shared only with his closest friends until now with the release of his book, The Modern Gentleman:
Cooking and Entertaining with Sean Kanan (release date September 13, 2011). Sean is as well known in
Hollywood circles for being a gourmet cook and impeccable host as he is by television fans for being daytime’s
baddest bad boy, Deacon Sharpe on the Young and the Restless.
Pork Chops Bada Bing
Serves 4
Prep Time 25 minute
The culinary influence for pork chops Bada Bing draws its inspiration from the far East rather than New Jersey
by way of Napoli as the name might suggest. During a lazy Sunday afternoon I was watching a Soprano’s
marathon on television. This dish earned its name after the Bada Bing strip club where Tony and his crew
hang. By the way, pork chops Bada Bing tastes even better the second day so if you don’t finish them just
throw them in the refrigerator and “fuggetaboutit”.
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tsp chopped garlic
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp Chinese chili paste
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 shallot
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp orange marmalade
- 1/4 cup pineapple
- 4 boneless pork chops
Combine all ingredients together in a quart size resealable bag. Place in the refrigerator until ready to cook.
They can be marinated overnight if desired. Preheat the grill or if you don’t have a grill you can use the broiler
in your oven. Remove pork loins from the bag and place on grill/broiler. Cook for about 7 minutes on each side,
slice into one to make sure it’s done or use a meat thermometer. Garnish with papaya and paprika.
In The Modern Gentleman; Cooking and Entertaining with Sean Kanan, author, actor, producer and self taught chef Sean Kanan offers expert field-tested instruction on how any guy can become a refined and
knowledgeable chef. Sean is witty, funny and, most importantly tells it like it is as he likens the art of cooking
and entertaining to that of staging a play by throwing back the curtain and revealing the elements that make
up a successful dining production, all the while never compromising what it means to be a guy’s guy. Sean
offers sage advice like “It’s not the size of the theater, it’s the talent on the stage” and dating tips such as how
to avoid getting slammed into the dreaded “friend box.” “Let’s face it. In today’s confusing social landscape
littered with mixed signals, guys are understandably confused and frustrated. Are we supposed to be Mr.
Sensitive guy good listener, or the Alpha male, or somewhere in between? If you don’t know the answer, then
buy this book.” The Modern Gentleman; Cooking and Entertaining with Sean Kanan isn’t just another collection
of recipes it’s a movement whose time has come. While the female population has long relied on teachers like
Oprah, Martha Stewart and Rachael Ray, the male population has been largely ignored and overlooked until
now.
The Modern Gentleman doesn’t just speak to men. Women will be fascinated to gain insider information
about how guys think. Remember ladies, knowledge is power. This is a book written by a man for other men so
that they may realize and understand how to better treat the women in their lives. It is a also a book that many
women will give to the men in their lives with the hope of discovering the gentlemen that they are capable of
becoming.
Sean goes beyond the recipes, offering intriguing stories of their origins as well as suggesting clever
ideas to serve them in world class ambiance under your own roof. He offers practical advice on assembling a
kitchen on any budget and many other entertaining useful tidbits. In the beginning Sean intended for this book
to be a stylish men’s cook book, however after he started writing beyond the basic recipes, he realized that he
was filling a gap for men who have long been ignored.
“…I began addressing issues about the lost art of conducting oneself like a gentleman.” Sean finds a
correlation between the lack of instruction for “gentlemanly” behavior as a possible cause of increasing bullying
behavior which led him to become a volunteer for the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). Sean recently traveled
to Washington, D.C. with the ADL’s Glass Leadership Program to encourage Congress to help create AntiBullying Legislation.
“I have appeared on numerous talk shows and given scores of interviews about the destructive and scarring
effects of bullying that until recently, many people dismissed as an unfortunate rite of passage…It wasn’t until
I had written dozens of pages that I realized The Modern Gentleman carried the potential to deliver a message
and hopefully inspire a new generation. I had been searching for a way that I could unite the work I do with
bullying and the essence of this book. It wasn’t until my beautiful Michele pointed out the obvious to me as she
so often does. It was right there before my eyes but I couldn’t see it.”
